Céad Míle Fáilte ~ A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

Here we seek a rest in the shade, some cool water and a little kindness. This blog is dedicated to peace, truth, justice and a post- industrial, post-petroleum illumined world in spite of all odds against it. I very much like the line about the ancient knight (see poem below) "His helmet now shall make a hive for bees" It is reminiscent of "beating swords into ploughshares" a sentiment I heartily approve of. Thank you for visiting ~ I hope you return!

US National DNA Database

Not to be out-Orwelled by the Sassanaugh, er, I mean the British bootstompers across the Pond, without warning, public debate or seemingly any oversight, President Bush and his own gang of bootstompers has signed into law a plan ordering the government to take no more than six months to set up a "national contingency plan" to screen newborn baby's DNA in case of a "public health emergency."

The new law requires that the results of the program – including "information … research, and data on newborn screening" – shall be assembled by a "central clearinghouse" and made available on the Internet. No parental consent is asked for and no opt-out provision is available.

This law makes of every man, woman and child a guinea pig or lab rat.

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood promoted such chilling eugenics to cull from the population types of people she considered unfit. If "society" decides that brown-eyed graphic artists or green-eyed heavy drinkers or brown skinned revolutionaries etc etc are "useless eaters" or need to be confined indefinately "for the good of society"~ the architects of the brave new society will know where to find them. The DNA will be right there. And no lawyer would be able to spring them, since they would be without rights thanks to the depredations of the Bush regime. How ever are we going to find our way out of this mess we are in?

According to congressional records, S.1858, sponsored by Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., was approved in the Senate Dec. 13, in the House April 8 and signed by Bush April 24.

From World Net Daily, be sure and read the whole article.

QUOTE "Soon, under this bill, the DNA of all citizens will be housed in government genomic biobanks and considered governmental property for government research," said Twila Brase, president of the Citizens' Council on Health Care. "The DNA taken at birth from every citizen is essentially owned by the government, and every citizen becomes a potential subject of government-sponsored genetic research." UNQUOTE

Eugenics is an innocent-sounding word, combining as it does the Greek words for "good" and "birth." Francis Galton, who made up the word and the idea, proposed Eugenics "for the betterment of mankind." But that's as far as the innocent stuff goes. The actual definition is rather horrible: the controlled and selective breeding of the human race.

Galton based his ideas on the theories of his cousin: Charles Darwin. By the beginning of the 20th century, when Darwin's theory was embraced by the scientific establishment, Eugenics was getting good press. The New York Times gave it constant and positive coverage. Luther Burbank and other scientists promoted Eugenics. George Bernard Shaw said that nothing but a Eugenic religion could save civilization.

Only one writer wrote a book against Eugenics. G.K. Chesterton. Eugenics and Other Evils is one his most prophetic books. The edition linked to above is heartily recommended. Not just for Chesterton's perceptive ravishing of the logic behind eugenics and the objectives beneath the surface, whether one agrees or not that the movement combined the capitalist desire to maintain cheap labour with the socialist desire to scientifically organize society. The most thought provoking part is the last. Here eugenicists of the period speaks through a series of authentic articles and letters.
Hair raising stuff.
