Céad Míle Fáilte ~ A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

Here we seek a rest in the shade, some cool water and a little kindness. This blog is dedicated to peace, truth, justice and a post- industrial, post-petroleum illumined world in spite of all odds against it. I very much like the line about the ancient knight (see poem below) "His helmet now shall make a hive for bees" It is reminiscent of "beating swords into ploughshares" a sentiment I heartily approve of. Thank you for visiting ~ I hope you return!

Irish Vote NO On Lisbon Treay

Despite heavy pressure to toe the EU party line, the Irish voted no on the restrictive Lisbon Treaty. Trust a Connemara fisherman to look staight into the eyes of a Brussels fat cat and tell him no thanks. Here are the figures. Here's The Irish Times reporting of this historic event.

Now if the British would only give back the North...

A little respect, if you please:

The Irish Anthem

Down By The Glenside
__________________________________
The Foggy Dew
As down the glen one Easter morn To a city fair rode I,
Their armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by. No pipe did hum, no battle drum
Did sound its loud tattoo
But the Angelus' bells o'er the Liffey swells Rang out in the foggy dew.
Right proudly high in Dublin town Hung they out a flag of war.
'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky
Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar.
And from the plains of Royal Meath Strong men came hurrying through;
While Brittania's Huns with their long-range guns
Sailed in through the foggy dew. The bravest fell, and the requiem bell
Rang mournfully and clear For those who died that Easter-tide
In the springing of the year.
While the world did gaze with deep amaze
At those fearless men but few
Who bore the fight that freedom's light
Might shine through the foggy dew.
And back through the glen I rode again
And my heart with grief was sore
For I parted then with valiant men Whom I never shall see more
But to and fro In my dreams I go
And I kneel and pray for you
For slavery fled
Oh, glorious dead
When you fell in the foggy dew

Lisbon Treaty Video

Trust the Irish to find the humor in resisting the overweening encroachment of Big Brother on local jurisdiction of one's own country. (First video.)

The second video is serious and heart wrenching. It strikes me that the Irish have put up with quite enough through the years to govern their own land; why toss such hard-won freedoms away?

Americans, take note: this could be YOU in a few years if the NAU - North American Union - goes through. Ron Paul supporters and other lovers of the real America, take notes.

Congratulations to those who made these videos, thy're brilliant! More information at this excellent web site.

EU Leaders Await Irish Vote on Lisbon Treaty

If any Irish readers wish to chime in, we'd welcome your feedback. How does your city, and your neighborhood feel about the Lisbon Treaty and the EU in general? Many Americans know little about this important issue.

QUOTE BRUSSELS (AFP) — European leaders are anxiously awaiting Thursday's Irish referendum on the bloc's reforming Lisbon Treaty, with the latest opinion polls showing the "no" camp in the ascendant.
"There is no plan B," if the Irish vote down the treaty, EU Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso has stressed.
That was a sentiment touted in 2005 when French voters, soon followed by their Dutch counterparts, voted down the EU's original constitution, which led to the treaty being drawn up as a more acceptable replacement.
Another EU official put the situation bluntly: "If there is a 'no' vote on Thursday then it's back to the drawing-board."
The European Commission on Friday urged Irish voters to turn out on June 12 for the country's referendum on the bloc's Lisbon Treaty, as an opinion poll in the Irish Times showed the "no" camp ahead for the first time. UNQUOTE
