Best Article on Palin Yet

Out of the media frenzy over the past week since McCain announced his choice for the VP slot on his ticket, today I read the best of the lot. It comes from The Times Online (UK). Fabbo, fabbo, fabbo.

Please note: I don't whole-heartedly endore any slate this year, believing that the whole picture is not addressed by any candidate and that the most worthy politcial work is currently being done by a retired oilman on his own dime (T. Boone Pickens) and however I vote this year I will be doing so with my nose firmly held, unless I write-in Ron Paul. That said, I do love seeing the liberals squirm.

It never ceases to amaze me how the Left falls again and again into the old trap of underestimating politicians whom they don't understand. From Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher to George Bush and Mrs Palin, they do it every time. Because these characters talk a bit funny and have ridiculously antiquated views about faith, family and nation, because they haven't spent time bending the knee to the intellectual metropolitan elites, they can't be taken seriously. T. Boone Pickens Brings His Plan To Lincoln

And I had to miss it! Bummer, bummer, bummer. Sounds like it was a capacity crowd of eclectic and concerned Nebraska citizenry. As it should be. I admire the folksy rich old coot more than I can express for sounding the alarm and putting his money ( $58 MIL of it in this consciousness-raising ad campaign alone). Pickens' comments tell of savvy, yet common-sense solutions. We have not only a chance to save America from peak oil burnout, but to also be pioneers in energy development, freeing us from energy dependency on foreigners who are not necessarily our friends, how valuable. And making our energy local via wind/solar and new souces: priceless.

Boone Pickens’ plea Wednesday for a public commitment to independence from foreign oil.Pumped up and prepped with country music, the electricity of 1,200 people flowed through the center like Pickens wants it to flow from windmills on the Plains, something like those Lincoln Electric System runs within sight of the event center.Pickens was in Lincoln on his $58 million, nationwide campaign to use wind energy production to replace natural gas use for electric generation, so the gas can be diverted to powering motor vehicles."

Pickens On the First Rule of Holes

I had to smile at at the utter beauty of it, the 84-year-old oil billionaire invoking the First Rule Of Holes* in this article on CNN.com today.

He meets today with the entire House Democratic Caucus. The venerable Texas oilman has not always been the most popular among this group during his long career as a corporate raider, which started in the 1980s — not to mention his role as a funder of the Swift Boat Veterans in the 2004 presidential campaign. But his current status as a champion of alternative energy has their attention.

In an interview, Mr. Pickens said Democrats have reached out to him. “I haven’t come up here trying to talk to anybody,” he said. “I felt like the grass roots is where I’d have my support.”
Last week, the “Pickens Plan,” which he’s touting in a huge national television, Internet and newspaper campaign, was mostly ignored on Capitol Hill. Many congressional offices knew no details of the plan, and most staffers said their bosses were too busy to bother.
However that was before word got around that Pickens was coming to town. His campaign has now reported “dozens and dozens” of requests for sit-down meetings. Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), a strong critic of speculators, who he says are inflating the price of oil, last week called Pickens "my political friend." The Sierra Club's executive director recently flew in Pickens's private plane. And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) invited him to speak to the Democratic caucus tonight. Strange bedfellows? When America's best interests are at stake, no surprise. Stay tuned, this is gonna get INTERESTING.
